Happy Winter Solstice 2018!

What Can We Expect From The Winter Solstice?

December 21, brings the Winter Solstice and for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere it will be the shortest day of the year.

For many who spend a lot of their time outside and working with animals it is a time for looking forward eagerly to the longer hours of daylight.

This is particularly welcome by one of my daughters who owns horses and works with dogs.

I too am grateful for the longer daylight hours and I am sure my hens are too. This is because at this time of year, they are in their coop for the long 16 hours of darkness.

winter solstice

The move towards the end of the year is always a time for reflection. The Winter Solstice triggers thoughts of looking back over the year, as well as looking forward to the New Year.

It is a time to appreciate the good, positive things that have happened. However, this is also a time to think about what we want to leave behind as we look forward to a New Year and what we hope it may bring.

At this time of year the Sun heads into reliable, steady and masterful Capricorn. Capricorn is a great goal-setter, so it is no wonder that so many are turning their thoughts to New Year Resolutions.

What do you hope to achieve in 2019?

Full Moon in Cancer

One day after the Solstice, the last full moon of the year moves into Cancer, bringing a warm family feeling as we anticipate Christmas.

It is only once a year that the Full Moon finds herself in her own sign of Cancer.

full moon in cancer

Sensitive Cancer can churn up a lot of emotions, not all of them positive.

The Cancer Full Moon can also bring the wake up call you need if you have been neglecting yourself physically. This can also mean the mental aspects of your life, including your emotions.

Thanks to the Full Moon squaring Chiron, some previously hidden pain may be exposed. However the Full Moon sextile Uranus also enables the discovery of solutions that may not have been obvious before.

For example, Christmas is often a time of increasing family rifts rather than healing them. Try to resolve any issues beforehand so that if you are going to spend time together for any length of time, then it can be a more enjoyable experience.

Sun Trine Uranus

The day before the Winter Solstice, on Thursday, December 20, the Sagittarius Sun trines Uranus in Aries.

This only happens once a year and can awaken the genius that is sleeping within us.

Those benefiting from this energy in particular are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Everyone should use this time to boost confidence. Find motivational videos and articles online and learn from them.

A Cosmic Energy Profile will also help guide you to getting the best from 2019.

For those suffering from the “sensory overload” that comes with all the extra socialising at this time of year, December 20 could also provide more opportunity to step aside from the crowd.

However, for some the Trine between the Sun and Uranus may awaken the need to do good for others less fortunate. It could be the time to gift money to a good cause, rather than spend money on those who already have everything.

Social gatherings and interaction online may provide new connections but be careful of over-selling yourself!

Uranus Retrograde Aries

Uranus is still in retrograde in Aries until January 6. Aries has so much self-confidence that care needs to be taken not to be a “big head”.

winter solstice 2018

Aries likes to be the star and the combination with brash Uranus, will increase the appetite to be in the spotlight.

Be particularly careful of others who may push themselves forward as an expert in matters that interest you. Check them out. By all means take a note of their ideas but do not get “sucked in”.

Winter Solstice 2018 – Mercury Conjunct Jupiter

On December 21st, Winter Solstice 2018 Mercury is conjunct Jupiter.

This Jupiter conjunction is particularly auspicious as, instead of lasting for two to three days, it will last for almost two months!

Perhaps parts of the brain have felt as though they have disappeared or become dormant?

Maybe you felt that the left-hand side of the brain had no connection with the right-hand side?

The Mercury conjunct Jupiter will make you feel as though parts of your brain are waking up!

December 24 – Christmas Eve

Mercury in Sagittarius is square Neptune at 13° Pisces on December 24.

The Sun-Neptune square brought creative possibilities at the beginning of the month. Provided you recognised this,  then Mercury square Neptune, on Christmas Eve, will bring more clarity.

You will begin to understand what the next steps should be.

Anyone feeling stuck in a rut will realise it is time to make a change and do things differently.

Even to the extent that something you believe in needs to change – including your job. Even long-term goals!

This can be confusing and resistance to change is likely. However, if you push through, then a whole new world of possibilities can open up.

What Does the July 2018 Full Blood Moon Mean For You?

What does the Full Blood Moon Mean? How will it affect you?

This July’s Full Blood Moon is unique in that is also falls on a full lunar eclipse. It will also be the longest Lunar Eclipse this century!

All about the July Full Blood Moon

The July Full Moon is known to Farmers as “The Buck Moon” and also “The Blessing Moon”.

It is the time when young Bucks start to grow their antlers.

The July full moon is also known to those working on the land as The Blessings Moon because they are starting  to reap the blessings of harvest.

The grain is being brought in and fruit and vegetables are starting to ripen.

The July Eclipse of the Full Moon

full blood moon

This is currently a very busy phase for eclipses right now – three in less than a month.

The first was on Friday 13 July 2018. This eclipse was only visible in a small area of the southern hemisphere, in Australia, Tasmania and parts of Antarctica.

The next eclipse occurs on Friday 27 July 2018, when the Full Blood Moon, will be fully eclipsed by the Sun.

The final eclipse during this period is on August 11 2018, when there will be a partial eclipse of the sun.

This will be visible to those living in northern Europe and a large area of central and eastern Asia. Parts of far northern and eastern Canada will also get a brief glimpse of the eclipse during their sunrise.

At a length of 1 hour and 43 minutes, the total eclipse of the Full Blood Moon on Friday 27 July will be the longest total Lunar Eclipse of this century!

What does an Eclipse of the Full Blood Moon mean to us?

Although, compared to Solar eclipses, eclipses of the moon raise an increased consciousness with regard to relationships, the focus is not necessarily on intimate partnerships.

Lunar eclipses can raise awareness in other areas of our lives and highlight what is needed from them.

This could be a sharper awareness of:

  • relationships at work
  • our health and bodies
  • relationships with our friends
  • relationships with our family

In the period leading up to this very special Lunar Eclipse, feelings and emotions will have been bubbling under the surface. Now they will come to light.

Be prepared for surprises and shocks!

Find out what the Full Blood Moon means for you!

What does the Full Blood Moon mean to the Zodiac Signs?

A full moon taking place during a total lunar eclipse is pretty rare at the best of times.

Add in the fact that it will be the longest lunar eclipse of this century and it’s no surprise to learn that things could get pretty intense in the Zodiac!

While this full moon is in Aquarius, the Sun is in Leo.

The influence of unconventional Aquarius could catch us off-guard. This means that the Fixed Signs, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio, could feel totally thrown off-balance.

This is because the Fixed Signs enjoy stability and structure in their lives,

In Astrology, the Moon rules over our emotions and intuition. This July’s Total Eclipse of the Blood Moon is going to be one of the most potent we will ever experience in our lifetime!

To add to the mix, Aquarius is conjunct with Mars during the eclipse, which can make life more emotionally challenging.

Everyone is going to be pushed to cleanse that which no longer serves a purpose.

There will be a need to let go of anything that is weighing us down.

full blood moon

The influence of Mars and Mercury

Mars is currently retrograde, as is Mercury, which went retrograde the day before the Full Moon.

This is going to also have an influence, potentially in a negative way.

Aquarius, Capricorn and Leo especially will feel the brunt of the effects of this blood moon.

Aquarians may find that they are very edgy, confused and feeling unusual inner tension during this period. They need to take time for themselves.

Using meditation will help bring inner calm to Aquarius during this period.

Together with Capricorn, Aquarius will feel a compulsion to try to make a difference. Capricorns, who are creatures of habit, will find this a difficult challenge!

During the Full Blood Moon normally confident and vibrant Leo can expect to feel off balance. However, on the plus side they may also experience some positive energy.

What does the Full Blood Moon mean to all of us?

Because the Moon and Mars are conjunct in Aquarius, this will stir up inner passions and the warrior in all of us. We will feel strong and brave and will feel compelled to defend our home and family.

However, this could lead us to experience very strong emotions that can get out of control. This means that we need to try to relax if we find ourselves becoming bossy, unkind or impatient.

This Full Blood Moon urges us to strike a balance between romance and friendship and between expressing ourselves in personal (Aquarius) and impersonal ways (Leo).

Leo is a proud and intense individual. He is not exactly a Team Player. However, Aquarius, while being a unique individual, recognises and appreciates the value of the Team.

This Full Blood Moon will cause conflict!

Due to the conflict between Leo (individual) and Aquarius (team player), it’s no wonder that this Full Moon will highlight an inner conflict, possibly in the form of a crisis of consciousness.

This Full Moon in Aquarius provides a brilliant opportunity to explore our emotional needs. What is normally accepted in  relationships may be overturned, challenged or even broken.

This may not necessarily be a bad thing. Remember that this is a time of letting go if needed!

However, on the plus side there is also the possibility that these relationships can be incredibly strengthened.

This can also be a time of emotional and dramatic discoveries. “Light-bulb moments” will occur as awareness of what is lacking in life develops.

This means that we can be driven to take positive action.

This July Full Blood Moon will cause unrest!

The Moon aligning with retrograde Mars can encourage unrest and we may see resentment and  protests from large groups of people as buried frustrations come to the surface.

There could be surprises for national leaders as people take to the streets to protest about what is happening in their countries.

For example, here in the UK we are becoming increasingly angry and frustrated at our Leader’s inability to inspire confidence.

She is failing to convince many that she knows what she is doing as far as negotiating our exit from the European Union is concerned.

Many people in the the US are also becoming increasingly angry at the way things are going.

The influence of a retrograde Mars on this full blood moon could be very interesting!

This Month Sees a Full Moon in Scorpio

The Full Moon in Scorpio – A Time of Heightened Emotion

This May the Flower Full Moon in Scorpio will be significantly positive for Taureans, Cancerians, Virgos, Scorpios, Capricorns and Pisceans. However, all the other signs will probably find it more challenging.

Full Moons are always times of peak intensity and this month’s union with Scorpio on May 10 will see our feelings become so heightened that everyone will be affected in one way or another as they have the potential to become more critical and tactless. Be aware that sexual relationships often experience difficulty when the Full Moon is in Scorpio.

Since the end of March, energy has been building and the influence of Scorpio will see this accumulation of energy finally released. The result will be deep and profound changes. These changes may take us by surprise at first. The suddenness will be shocking.

Hidden motives will become apparent and secrets will be revealed, but when we really start to think about it we will come to understand that it was meant to be. We will see that the changes are something that are actually a natural development as our lives evolve.

Many close relationships, both personal and business, will come under the spotlight. Loyalty, fidelity and commitments will be questioned. It will be a time for taking stock of what may have been taken for granted and there could be some significant changes.

The Flower Moon is said to be the most sexy and romantic of all the full moons and the combination with the sensual sign of Scorpio has the potential to bring a deluge of drama and intrigue with it. However, a full moon in Scorpio will also provide the opportunity to escape from distractions and try to concentrate on achieving peace and balance.

Beware of extremes of behaviour during this time. There could be a tendency to either overreact or try to bury feelings. Neither is good!

In general, the Scorpio Flower Moon on May 10 2017 is a time for all the signs of the Zodiac to focus on the root causes of issues and decide what to do about them. So what does the Flower Moon have in store for each of the star signs, particularly with regard to romance and relationships?

ARIES

The Flower Moon in Scorpio will make it challenging for Aries. They will feel off balance while they battle with inner struggles. At times it will feel as though there is a minor disaster waiting for them at every turn.

The Full Flower Moon may make Arians feel uncomfortable, but this will only last for a few days, when they will be able to relax more and take time to plan and make decisions.

This is not a full moon that will have much impact on Aries in matters of love and romance. The focus should be on finance and self-development.

TAURUS

Scorpio lies directly opposite Taurus on the Zodiac wheel, which means that those born under the sign of the Bull will be very affected by the Scorpio Flower Moon.

Do not make the mistake of assuming that this can be a bad thing!

Tauruses should use this time to concentrate on resolving problems in their relationships. They could even decide to walk away from relationships or commitments that no longer fulfil them.

The full moon is a perfect time to purge negativity from our lives, including giving up bad habits.

GEMINI

The Scorpio Flower Moon should be a productive time for Gemini. Time should be spent concentrating on finishing projects and using emotions productively, while not pushing themselves too hard – which is a strong personality trait in many Geminis (including this one).

This could wear us out and lead to an increase in negative energy. Something to watch for!

CANCER

Cancer is one of the signs that will find positive benefits from the Scorpio Flower Moon. More creativity will come to the surface, which should not be ignored. Instead those born under the Sign of the Crab should use their creativity to the utmost and set about produce something amazing.

This is also the time to assess close relationships. Cancerians have the potential to grow even closer to those they love or, at the opposite end of the scale, they may find themselves ending associations with those with whom they no longer feel a close connection.

However, while all this is going on Cancerians should be careful of their tendency to cause drama as they could stir up unnecessary conflicts.

LEO

Fiery Leo could find The Flower Moon in Scorpio an intense time. Their frame of mind will determine whether they are drawn into feeling more passionate or loving or whether their more negative traits of revenge and jealousy will win the day.

For Leos who find themselves feeling emotionally sensitive it is a sign that they need to work on their inner strength and settle issues in the home or with members of their family.

VIRGO

The normally emotionally inhibited Virgo will find that the Flower Moon in Scorpio will make it easier for them to express their feelings. Virgos tend to hide their emotions too much and this is a time when they can unburden themselves and get things off their chests.

During this time Virgoans will be more perceptive. They will see through the words that people use and have a greater understanding of what they actually mean.

This is also the ideal time for Virgos to stay busy, stop procrastinating and finish off all the little projects and loose ends they have been putting off. Just do it!

LIBRA

Librans are constantly looking for balance, peace, and harmony and the Scorpio Flower Moon offers the opportunity for them to get their finances in order. Libra is blessed with good intuition but the Flower Moon might cause them to doubt their normally accurate instincts.

During this time other people’s opinions have the potential to make Librans question themselves or feel insecure. These inner negative thoughts need to be blocked out, so that Libra has a clear mind in order to be able to understand many of the seemingly inexplicable and mysterious events, that could be occurring around them.

SCORPIO

While the May Flower Moon is in their sign Scorpio will reap what they sow. So be careful to ensure that the outcomes are positive!

While all the star signs could find this Full Moon intense and challenging, in many different ways, Scorpios will get double the dose and whether the effect is positive or negative, will depend on how they have been in the run up to the Full Moon.

It will go one of two ways and Scorpio will be either rewarded or punished. There’s the potential to make progress with the things about which they are passionate IF they have worked hard at it; or, if they have been uncaring, reckless or lazy then setbacks and delays will be the result.

During this period of intense and extreme emotions Scorpios need to take care not to let the darker side of their personality rule their actions and reactions – or it could come back to bite!

SAGITTARIUS

For Sagittarians, the Flower Moon in Scorpio will be a time of self analysis. Old emotions and deeper motivations and things from the past, that are no longer worthwhile holding on to, can be released.

Providing those born under the sign of The Archer can do this letting go, there will be a huge sense of relief as the weight is lifted from them.

However, there’s a word of caution….during this extremely introspective phase Sagittarius should take care at family gatherings, where there is the potential for family issues and problems to be come to the fore and be exacerbated.

Now is not the time for The Archer to be tactless!

CAPRICORN

Time to get off the fence Capricorn! This is the time to make some choices in several areas of your life in particular.

You can decide to settle outstanding issues with some of those around you or you may simply walk away from a friendship or group. That cause or dream that is on your mind? You could put more energy into it, or let it go.

This is the time to focus on what you would like to achieve in the future, to be sure of getting what you want. The Flower Moon in Scorpio sees a lessening of emotions in Capricorn, giving them the clarity of thinking, which they need to reach for their goals.

AQUARIUS

The Flower Moon in Scorpio can be either very positive for Aquarius or a total let down. It all depends how they approach it. There is definitely attention to be had, but it might not be the kind of attention they want.

Aquarians should choose their projects wisely and be honest about their motives and intentions, before taking them forward.

PISCES

The Scorpio Flower Moon has the potential to be a positive for Pisces. There will be opportunities to finish various projects including study or settle legal matters.

If you are living away from home, this will be a time when you could return home.

You may also find yourself passionately defending your position on matters that mean a lot to you, including your beliefs. However, during this period of heightened emotions, Pisceans need to be fully aware and sympathetic of how other people feel too.

Take care Pisces, that you don’t end up in an argument or a few!

How is the May Flower Moon affecting you? Have there been any sudden surprises or shocks in your relationships?

Astrological Transits of The Planets

What are the transits of the planets and how do they influence our astrological birth chart?

As the planets slowly make their way through the Zodiac, they pass through the different houses of our birth chart and create different aspects with the positions of our natal planets. We call this the “transition” of the planets, which triggers the behavior and events that we can expect to influence our life each day.

The effect of each planet’s transition will depend on its location in relation to the other planets and houses in our natal horoscope. The day to day events and changes in our lives are influenced by the transits of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. In addition to Earth, these planets are the closest to the Sun, so their progress is relatively quick and their transits are measured in days and weeks. These are referred to as “inner” planets

The “outer” planets, those furthest from the Sun, are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Their transition is slower and they have more influence on the long term effects on our lives, which is measured in years and decades.

The duration of the period in which a planet has an influence also depends on whether the planet in transit is in retrograde motion on the date in which we are interested.

Planets can stay in retrograde motion from between 21 days to five months. Mercury moves fastest and will stay in retrograde for 21 days, while Pluto is the slowest and takes 5 months – the other planets are in between.

The effect of a planet’s transit throughout a natal house will be felt throughout the duration of its stay in that house.

Transits of the Inner Planets

Transits of the Sun

The Sun is the source of all energies and it takes one year to travel through all 12 Houses, spending roughly one month in each. The Sun’s energies stimulate the activities of the house it occupies at any given time and, depending on its aspect to the natal planet, will reinforce or weaken the planetary effects.

When the Sun transits an inner planet, it may trigger a dormant aspect between that inner planet and a slower moving outer planet. If a planet is being transited by another planet at the same time that it is being transited by the Sun, the effect of the transit will be strengthened.

Transits of the Moon

Unlike the Sun, the Moon spends only a very short time in a natal house – approx two and a half days. Because of this, the effects of the Moon happen so rapidly that we will feel them more as sub-conscious urges and impulses to situations, rather than be totally aware of what is happening.

Transits of the Planet Mercury

Mercury spends about a week in each natal house so we will only feel its influence for around 4 weeks during the year. During each of those weeks it will influence our mental outlook, communications and dealings with others and we may feel the urge to travel. When Mercury is in retrograde motion during its transit it may hold us back and there will be delays in the matters over which the planet has influence.

Transits of the Planet Venus

Venus spends about three weeks in each natal house. As the planet of love and enjoyment of material things, the transit of Venus will bring different degrees of enjoyment. The effects of Venus in transit will be felt as subconscious experiences rather than as specific urges to action.

Venus is in retrograde for about one and a half months each year. During that time the planet’s influence will be to slow down or delay matters of the heart.

Transits of the Planet Mars

Mars spends around two months in each natal house. This planet will provide you with the energy needed to assert ourselves in the pursuit of what we want for ourselves. However, the negative influence of Mars in retrograde is that, for three months during the year, we may experience setbacks and delays to our plans and objectives.

Transits of the Slower, Outer Planets

While the faster moving inner planets influence our daily lives, the slower moving outer planets influence us more in the longer term. These effects will felt over years and even decades and need to be considered when we are attempting to interpret what is happening in our daily lives.

Transits of the Planet Jupiter

As Jupiter transits through our natal chart, it will allow us to open up and expand our feelings, triggering new opportunities. Jupiter stays in each house for about a year, during which time it will be retrograde for about four months.

Transits of the Planet Saturn

During the period it transits each house, Saturn brings opportunities to develop more self-discipline and how to face responsibilities in the areas of our lives represented by each house. The transit of Saturn can bring difficulties but these also offer opportunities to become more wise as we get older.

Saturn stays in each house for around two and a half years and will be in retrograde for about four and a half months.

Transits of the Planet Uranus

Uranus in transit brings major changes to our lives. It influences us to give up the rigid behaviours of our past and forces us to rebuild to make us better equipped for living in the now.

Uranus is in each natal house for about seven years and is retrograde for about five months of each year.

Transits of the Planet Neptune

Transiting Neptune brings opportunities for self-discovery and will encourage us to use our creative abilities in the areas affected by the house it occupies. Negatively, it can also lead to confusion as it can adversely affect your ability to discern the difference between reality and illusion in those same areas. This is because Neptune can energise our psychic abilities and if we are unused to these feelings, then we can be unsure of our judgement.

Neptune occupies each house for about five months of each year.

Transits of the Planet Pluto

Pluto in transit will topple the established order in the affairs of the house that it occupies. It will then create the opportunities from which new beginnings can emerge. We will feel that nothing in those areas is the same and that major changes are afoot.

Pluto spends about 20 years in each natal house. It is in retrograde motion for about five months of each year.

What does it mean in Astrology when we say a Planet is Retrograde?

An explanation of what we mean when we say a Planet is Retrograde.

Have you ever sat in a stationary train at the railway station, which is alongside another train? Then, as you watch the other train, it appears to be moving backwards?

But, to start with, you are unsure if the other train is travelling backwards or if your train is moving forwards?

The same happens with the planets. Although all the planets always move around the Zodiac in the same direction, sometimes it looks like some planets are moving backwards. We call this apparent reverse motion of a planet “retrograde” motion.

Retrograde motion happens in several stages. First of all the retrograde planet will appear to stand still, while the other planets continue to move forward. Next the planet appears to start to travel backward through the starsigns, followed by another period when it appears to stop moving, before it resumes its forward motion.

Retrograde motion occurs with all the planets, except the sun and moon.

The inner planets (Venus, Mercury and Mars) spend less time in retrograde motion than the outer planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). This is because the orbits of the outer planets around the sun take much longer because they are further away. The time a planet will spend in retrograde varies from about 22 days for nearby Mercury to about 160 days for distant Pluto.

A general misconception is that when a planet is retrograde it always signifies something negative or not pleasant. A retrograde planet will prolong the influence of that planet in the sign and house of a horoscope in which it is located. So if that influence happens to be an unpleasant one, the prolonged negativity will be blamed on the retrograde planet.

On the other hand, we need to remember and take note of the fact that if a retrograde planet is producing a more pleasant effect, that too will be prolonged by the retrograde planet.

Astrology Houses

The twelve Signs of the Zodiac show the positions of the planets along the path of the Sun (called the ecliptic) on any date. These planetary positions don’t change very much at all during the 24 hours of a single day. However, the rotation of the earth sees a new rising sign about every two hours – because there’s 12 Signs of the Zodiac.

Each of the Houses in Astrology represents the different areas of your life as follows:

First  Self-image, first impressions, our general outlook on life
Second  Self-worth, earnings, possessions
Third  Communication
Fourth  Home, parents, family
Fifth  Pleasures, romance, children
Sixth  Health, work
Seventh  Partners, marriage
Eighth  Change and our attitude towards that change, sexuality
Ninth  Beliefs, philosophy, travel and foreign cultures
Tenth  Career, reputation
Eleventh  Friends, aspirations, personal goals
Twelfth  Secrets, soul growth, karma, limitations

The First House is Aries and you simply rotate anti-clockwise around the Zodiac Wheel above, so that the Second House is Taurus and so on, finishing with the Twelfth House of Pisces.

The Houses are also distributed across the four Hemispheres, but to complicate matters, the Southern Hemisphere appears in the upper part of the horoscope and the Northern Hemisphere in the lower. If most of your planets fall into one particular Hemisphere, this will be the effect:

Northern Hemisphere

The Importance of Elements

The Elements are also significant when you look at the groupings of the houses as follows:

Individual Houses: These are the First, Fifth and Ninth Houses (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius), which are controlled by the Element of Fire. They focus on life identity.

Temporal Houses: These are the Second, Sixth and Tenth Houses (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), which are controlled by the Element of Earth. They focus on meeting material needs.

Relative Houses: These are the Third, Seventh and Eleventh Houses (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius), which are controlled by the Element of Air. They focus on relationships, social contact and mind-sharing.

Terminal Houses:  These are the Fourth, Eighth and Twelfth Houses (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces), which are controlled by the Element of Water. They focus on our emotions.

The Importance of Qualities

Yet another significant grouping corresponds with the Qualities (Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable) of the Signs of the Zodiac. The significance of a cluster of planets in a group of these houses is as follows:

The Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are the First, Fourth, Seventh and Tenth Houses. They are the initiators of the Zodiac who are great at starting things but find it hard to see them through.

Because of their enthusiasm they can sometimes come across as domineering and controlling – and they can be, but you have to admire their energy and drive.

The Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) are the Fifth, Eighth and Eleventh Houses. They enjoy personal stability, which allows them to maintain order in their lives. Just as Cardinal Signs initiate, the Fixed signs are the “completer-finishers” that every team or relationship needs.

However they do have a tendency, thanks to their self-confidence, to believe they are always right.

Fixed Signs are patient, reliable and steady and will always remember the people who help them out.

The Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) are the Third, Sixth, Ninth and Twelfth Houses. They are the signs that are flexible and adaptable – they really do “go with the flow” and will happily put their own views to one side if it is for the good of the majority. Because of their versatility, they can be different people in different situations and environments – they are the chameleons of the Zodiac.

But their desire to please can get them into trouble and they are in danger of being seen to be indecisive and perhaps two-faced.

Among the most unselfish signs of the Zodiac, Mutable Signs will bend over backwards to help others and although they may stretch themselves thin in the process, they know how to bounce back with renewed energy.

All of this explains why, although you may know your Sun Sign and its characteristics, these factors mean that the combination of the other signs in your Birth Chart, will also have a huge influence on your personality and your life.

Compatibility and Astrology

When two people first meet, the chance of them having a compatible relationship will always depend on how their character, needs and personality traits will blend and their ability to give and take with each other in either, or both, social or business situations.

You can determine compatibility by comparing natal charts.

When doing a comparison, the first thing you should look at is whether they have a predominance of planets in one of the elements – a “predominance” is more than four planets in one element (the elements being Earth, Fire, Air or Water). A predominance of planets in one element will tell you something about their dominating characteristics and what they will bring to a relationship.

For example:

Anyone with a predominance of Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) will bring an impulsive enthusiasm to the relationship.

Someone with a predominance of Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) will have a stabilizing influence on the relationship.

A person with a predominance of Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) puts the relationship on an intellectual level.

A person with a predominance of Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) will literally flood the relationship with deep emotional actions and reactions.

Generally speaking, people are more likely to be compatible with each other when their natal planets fall into compatible elements, which are Earth with Water and Fire with Air. This means that if you have a predominance of natal planets in the Fire signs, you are more likely to have a compatible and successful relationship with someone who has a predominance of natal planets in the Air signs. If your companion’s planets are mostly in the Earth signs, you can expect assorted difficulties depending on which elements are involved.

Another important factor is to check how many of your and your partner’s/friend’s planets are in the Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable signs. These are called “Qualities”.

A predominance of planets in one Quality (i.e. five or more planets in a Cardinal, Fixed, or Mutable sign) tells you how someone is likely to act in a relationship. For example:

A predominance of Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) makes you anxious to see things get started.

Someone with a predominance of Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) is more likely to be stubborn and unyielding in a relationship.

A predominance of Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius) usually results in people who will be adaptable and willing to make compromises.

Finally, note how your and your companion’s planets are spread among the masculine and feminine signs.

The Masculine signs are: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.

The Feminine signs are: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.

Most people have an even balance between masculine and feminine of five:five, or six:four. If you and your companion each have a normal ratio of planets, you should get along with each other. You should have no trouble working through things even when one of you has a gender ratio of seven:three while the other has a four:six ratio.

The trouble may come if there are more than three planets between you and your companion, in one gender. You will both need to work very hard to maintain the relationship. The reason is that the dominantly masculine person’s aggressive behavior will make the more passive and reserved feminine signs feel threaten and harassed.

If both of you in the friendship or relationship have a predominance of the same gender, whether it is masculine or feminine they are far more likely to share the same viewpoint and approach to life. Initially, this can be reassuring and give them a strong feeling of compatibility. However, they will soon feel a need for the kind of stimulation that comes from having mildly different points of view.

Unfortunately, anyone dominated by a single gender (eight of more planets either masculine of feminine) may find it difficult to establish a comfortable relationship.
