Introducing Cancer – “I Feel”
June 21 – July 22
Cancer is the 4th sign of the Zodiac and its symbol (or glyph) is the Unicode, which represents the Crab, the perfect combination of hard and soft, with a tough outer shell balancing the softness inside.
In Western astrology, Cancer is considered to be a “feminine”, negative and introvert sign, along with the other five even-numbered signs of the Zodiac: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Scorpio and Pisces.
Cancer is a very small, dim constellation that sits between Gemini and Leo. It is sometimes referred to as the “Dark Sign” because it is so faint.
The Story of Cancer the Crab
The constellation of Cancer
The constellation of Cancer originates with the myth of The Twelve Labours of Heracles.
In mythology, the crab was sent by Hera to be a distraction to Hercules during a battle with a giant serpent creature. Hercules refused to be messed with during a fight, so he kicked the crab all the way to the stars.
Another version of this story says that Hercules crushed the crab under his foot. In honor of his valiant attempt at defeating Hercules, Hera placed the crab amongst the stars for eternity. However, because he failed in his quest, he was placed in the dimmest part of the sky where he would be remembered but not exalted.
The ruling planet of Cancer
Cancer is ruled by the moon, which is the ruler of the emotions and the soul.

The Qualities of Cancer
Cancer’s Quality is Cardinal
The signs of the Zodiac are also divided into Qualities: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable and signs that share a Quality are generally regarded to be hostile to each other.
The Quality determines the basis for an individual’s temperament. Those with a certain Quality will tend to have dominating characteristics that are deeply ingrained and unchanged throughout their life. Each Quality views the world in a different way and reacts to stimuli differently so that their reasoning and actions may be contradictory to the other Qualities.
The Quality of Cancer is “Cardinal”
The Cardinal, or moveable, Quality is known to be a dynamic force. The original Latin word “cardinal” translates to “hinge”. It is used to describe the Quality of each of the starsigns that mark the transition into a new temperate season. Therefore, these signs are known for initiating action and providing strong leadership.
On the flip side, Cardinal signs can be thought of as stubborn and demanding, as they are sure that their way is the one and only way.
Aries, Libra and Capricorn are also Cardinal signs and are therefore less likely to be compatible with Cancer.
